Over the years, small business owners have been faced with a new type of worker: One who fancies working in multiple locations and is never in one place for long—a telecommuter, per se. The HP ProBook 4310s ($880 direct) is a mix of traditional business essentials—an optical drive, a matte screen, and even a RJ-11 jack—and current laptop trends, while emphasizing the importance of portability. Its major weakness is that it doesn't have room for an extended HP DV2000 Battery, and the 3 hours it managed with the 37Wh battery may not be enough for road warriors. As part of its push into grid-scale electricity storage, Altair Nanotechnologies is looking to supply its lithium-ion laptop batteries to support a 1.4-megawatt solar project on the Hawaiian island of Lanai. So he sent me off with a MacBook Pro to replace my MacBook. It has more memory, a backlit keyboard (which I love), bigger hard drive, better monitor, the new touch pad system, etc. They upgraded me to a better, faster computer, and also gave me Snow Leopard, too. Fujitsu has just released the new Fujitsu M2010 which is their newest Netbook and the first Fujitsu(FPCBP155 Battery) netbook to hit the market. But, this is not a netbook for the quaint or the ordinary. The Fujitsu M2010 is for those who crave style and class from their netbooks and not just performance. And, it comes at a price. In its basic configuration, the Benthic Rover is designed to operate on batteries, without any human input. However, during its month-long journey this summer, the Rover was connected by a long extension cord to a newly-completed underwater observatory. This observatory, known as the Monterey Accelerated Research System (MARS), provided power for the robot, as well as a high-speed data link back to shore. | ||
